A Great Morning Routine

A friend once told me that if you win the morning you win the day. I tend to agree. I’ve spent many years trying to perfect my mornings, and with kids, multiple jobs, moving houses, travel etc etc, it’s damn hard to lock something in. But in all these years I’ve come to find what really works for me! Here’s my ideal sequence of morning activities if you’re interested:

6:30 - Wake up and do some exercise - something light, like stretching or yoga. Drop into the body and feel into what’s flowing, what’s stuck, how you may need to move or work in the day.

7:00 - Feed the kids and make school lunches! Have breakfast with some protein (if your body has protein in the morning it’s senses that it’s safe and nourished and you’ll be less anxious in the day)

7:30 - Cacao, journal, meditate

8:00 - Quick ocean dip. I live next to the ocean so it’s easy, but a cold shower works too!

8:30 - Walk the kids to school.

9:00 - Make a healthy smoothie and start work. If I didn’t get time to meditate then I do it here for 15 minutes

Note - Try to not check your phone until after you journal and meditate. Always kiss your loved ones and give them an enthusiastic good morning as soon as you see them!

Additional things I sometimes add into the mix:

  • Dancing

  • Playing with the kids

  • Intention setting for the day with the family

  • Sometimes I skip breakfast if my bod is telling me that’s what it wants

  • Snorkelling (such a beautiful way to start the day)

This is where I get to snorkel every morning, which is ridiculously lush.
